Traveling With Your Dog

It may seem like a luxury to take your dog to a Parisian cafe or stroll around the Jardin in central Madrid, but for many pet parents it’s not an option. Instead, they must leave their furry friend at home with a trusted dog sitter or at a boarding facility. While this might be a necessary evil, it’s not without its challenges.

Many people assume that traveling with their dogs is impossible, but the reality is that with a little extra planning it’s more common than you might think. In fact, some couples have made traveling with their dogs a full-time lifestyle. The couple behind this pawsome adventure, Julia and Sven, have taken their Samoyed Felix on two and a half years of travel. They’ve clocked up over 26,000 miles together and have covered more than 20 countries. And thanks to their social media page, 'wanderlust_samoyed', the pair have become quite the travel influencers.

The couple has learned a lot of lessons along the way, and they have some tips for anyone wanting to travel with their dog. For starters, they recommend flying direct if possible. This will not only help you avoid layovers, which can add to the stress of a long flight day, but it’s also much more affordable than getting a connecting flight.

Another tip is to start slow and work your way up to longer flights. It’s not uncommon for small dogs to struggle on their first long-haul flight, so it’s important to ease them into the experience by hopping on short domestic flights and then slowly working your way up. You should also always make sure to conduct thorough research for your return flight as well, as the rules for leaving and entering a country will often differ.

Finally, when it comes to いちぱち家 愛犬と旅する還暦シニア夫婦 preparing for a trip, the most important thing is to get your pup used to being in their carrier. This can be done by having them sleep in the carrier regularly at home and by exposing them to public spaces that they’re likely to encounter during your travels. It’s also a good idea to give your pup lots of positive experiences in the carrier, such as feeding them their favorite treats and using calming products like Adaptil(r) pheromone wipes or spray.

When it comes to a road trip, make sure your dog has plenty of water and food for the duration of the journey. A collapsible bowl is a good idea, as are a few favorite toys to keep them entertained on long stretches of road. And, of course, don’t forget poop bags, as picking up after your pup in new surroundings is an essential part of being a responsible pet parent.

If you’re thinking of taking your dog on a trip, don’t let fear or misconceptions stop you. With careful preparation, it’s actually easier than you might think to take your pooch on the trip of a lifetime! Check out some of our other articles on how to travel with your pet for more tips.
