A Course In Miracles, also known as A Course In Supernatural Beliefs, is a classic book written by Helen Schucman, PhD. The premise of the book is that whatever the deepest self desire, that we call our "spiritual longing" or "will", is realized by the power of will. But what is the secret of this "will" and how can one actually "will" anything? A Course in Miracles traces the secrets of the will all through the pages of this inspirational text. It answers the question of just what is our "will" and where does it come from? Dr. Schucman contends that we are all born with the will to make choices and the rest is up to us whether we choose to let go of our will or use it to help guide our lives and fulfill our divine dreams.
One aspect of the mystery of the will is that it is essentially a mask that protects the ego from the realities of "unconditioned" or "unconditioned" reality. This reality is the experience of the ego within the will, and this is what A course in miracles aims to eliminate from one's consciousness. According to the teachings of this book, there is only one person in this world who truly understands all of existence: The One. No one else is permitted to interfere with the will's workings, for that matter. Only the One knows the mysteries of the universe and the path it must travel to get to itself and be revealed to its victims. Only the One has the power of forgiveness.
While A Course In Miracles does away with the myths of separation and identifies the oneness of all things, it still remains tied to the idea of a specialness. This is why I often refer to this book as having a "one-size-fits-all" approach to spirituality. The secret of this specialness is hidden within the essence of "the Oneness of Everything." Only when one has mastered this understanding and becomes a fully fledged practitioner of the mysteries of the universe can they truly say they have achieved a "specialness."
However, if we look into the nature of the teachings of A Course In Miracles, it quickly becomes apparent that it has nothing to do with "specialness" at all. This is a book of personal empowerment and healing, as is The Secret. Neither book teaches the concept of forgiveness. The teachings found in these two books are completely different, yet the authors seem to share a common ground. It all comes down to a common thread.
In both books, a person is led back to the Oneness. This Oneness is characterized by a complete absence of any opposites, divisions, or "self" in all aspects of life. There is no such thing as good and evil. This is the basis for all teachings. Once this perception is realized, it is easier to apply the principles of miracles. With a clear understanding of the Oneness of everything, a person is then able to use miracles to fix things that have gone wrong in their lives.
If you want to know more about how your life can be changed through the application of A Course In Miracles and The Secret, why not give them both a try? Just remember though, that with either of these books, you will only change your own life by accepting that there is no correct perception (material) around you, and thus no incorrect perception. You must learn to see your life as it truly is.
